Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Here you can sponsor me online.

Scope have set a target of £3000 for me to raise... I have donated the first £200, but every donation will make a difference

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Scope will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you - For every £100 we raise, this becomes £128.

Companies can also claim 10 - 30% tax releif on their donation when calculating corporation tax... So the more you give, the more you get back!

Many thanks for your support!

Why did I decide to fundraise?

This is also a personal challenge for me. Most of you who know me know that I spent a lot of my childhood in various Childrens Hospitals due to a disorder of my Spine which I was born with. Thanks to the work of surgeons, I was able to overcome this. Unfortunately, disabled people with cerebal palsy do not have the option of an operation, so I consider myself lucky to be able to take part in the Vietnam Trek.

This is not a holiday!! I will spend 9 days in Vietnam, most days I will be trekking through the varied countryside, for up to 9 hours a day. Prior to undertaking this challenge, I will commence training of over 12 hours walking a week in the months before the challenge, which is to run in mid-October 2008.

Scope works not only with supporting disabled people and their families, but also helping disabled people into employment. Cerebal Palsy is where a part of the brain does not develop properly, affecting speech and/or mobility. The condition can be mild, or very severe, and some people are simply never diagnosed, so a lot of sufferers are able to work, but don't get the opportunity, as, and which I know from personal experience, as soon as an employer sees any kind of disability on a CV, especially one which they don't understand, they'd rather simply not get involved. Scope actively helps people with cerebal palsy into work placements.
