Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I’ve been helping to raise funds for The Cirdan Sailing Trust for many years and this year have set myself the triple challenge of doing so by running the Aberdeen 10K on the 22nd May, freefall skydiving 13000ft in Suffolk 17th June and cycling 25 miles in Cirdan’s Summer Breeze Ride on 10th July.

I’m not too fazed by the running or cycling, having completed greater distances in the past, but the skydiving is a different matter!!!  I will need all the support I can get and your support in the form of donation would be really encouraging.

The Cirdan Sailing Trust is an established charity that helps to motivate, stimulate and discipline disadvantaged young people through the challenge and adventure of life at sea on large sailing vessels.  The youngsters, most of whom come from troubled or deprived backgrounds, join the vessel for a residential experience and take a full and active part in life on board, both above and below deck.  Alongside the professional crew, they have to work hard on deck aboard vessels that are purposely designed to be labour intensive, get involved in planning and navigation, learn how to cook for themselves and each other and keep a tidy ship.  They also have to adapt to living in harmony with their shipmates in a confined space and learn how to conduct themselves when ashore.

Over the years, Cirdan has sailed with around 30,000 young people from all over the UK and has an amazing record for helping young people who have lost direction, usually through no fault of their own, to become accepted and useful members of society.

Another aspect of Cirdan’s work which is of particular interest to me is providing an opportunity for young soldiers injured during active service or training to participate in a sailing voyage as part of their rehabilitation programme.  The voyages give the young solders a chance to relax, reflect and reassess their lives.

The funds raised through my Triple Challenge will be used to further Cirdan’s work and in particular The Voyage of Discovery Fund which provides financial assistance to the young people and injured soldiers wishing to benefit from life at sea.
