Raising money for The J's Hospice

The J’s Hospice Charity was founded by Denise Whiffin in 2004 in memory of her late son Jonathan who suffered from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy he died in January 2002, aged 19. <p> Throughout the United Kingdom there are thousands of people aged of 18 to 40 with life limiting conditions that could benefit from our services. At present there is one hospice in the United Kingdom specifically for this age group. The J’s Hospice Charity is striving to raise £5 million to build the first stand-alone hospice in the United Kingdom for this age group it will be built in Essex, primarily for people from the East of England. It will have 10 ensuite bedrooms and facilities for recreation, entertainment and study in a relaxed environment, together with accommodation for families and friends. <p> We have just secured funding from the Mid Essex Primary Care Trust to set up Outreach at Home. This service will offer care, support, short home respite, end of life care and bereavement support in the home to 18 to 40 year olds, including their families, friends and carers. We will need to raise £150,000 a year to keep Outreach running and this cost will increase as the service grows. <p> The J’s Hospice Charity is looking and acre of land in Essex to build the hospice it is estimated that £5 million will be needed to build, furnish and equip the hospice with a further £2 million a year to run it. <p> For further information email info@thejshospice.org,uk.

On the 9th July I am taking part in a charity ride to Paris from London over 3 days. We will be leaving Richmond Park in London on the morning of 9th and riding down into Surrey and over the North Downs (very big hills which I hate) and down to Portsmouth. Here we will catch an over night ferry (I hate boats and will be awake all night trying not to throw up) to Caen where (after a night of not sleeping and being sick) i am then expected to ride through the rolling (more big hills) of rural France (don't like the French) to the finish line at the Eiffel Tower in Paris where i'll be allowed to have a beer again. Please help me collect as much money for this great cause as possible, not for riding my hellish bike down to Paris in lycra for all to point and laugh at but for me not to drink beer for 3 days.

We are actively looking for land to purchase on which to build the hospice in Essex. We then need to raise £5 million to build furnish and equip the hospice. If you can help by sponsoring me to raise as much as I can for the J's Hospice Charity, so that we can offer some help and respite care to 18 to 40 year olds with life limiting conditions.
