I have never undertaken any triathlon in the past but was happy to pledge to do so after having a tour of the facilities provided by the Banbury Young Housing Project (BYHP) and hearing about the work that this charity does.

Over the past 17 years, BYHP has been working with Young People aged 16-25 who are homeless, inappropriately housed or at risk of becoming homeless in Oxfordshire.  BYHP's head office is in Banbury and there are satellite projects working in West and South Oxfordshire,  the Vale of White Horse and Oxford City.

In the past 12 months over 400 Young People have benefited from the work of the charity.  Most of them have been made homeless through no fault of their own, fleeing violence, abuse or eviction.  BYHP does not discriminate, nor will it abandon any Young Person who requests its help.  It is a sad fact that there has been  year on year rise in the number of Young People seeking help.

The charity is staffed by qualified and experienced workers supported by volunteers.  They offer a range of services through one to one advice and information, outreach work in schools and youth centres, family mediation, education and training opportunities as well as helping find accommodation. Other work includes finding longer term accommodation, support for particularly vulnerable Young People such as those with mental and physical disabilities, along with the prevention of homelessness.

I have seen the work this charity undertakes and spoken to people involved in the charity. I believe that any money raised will be used to very good effect.

I think it is also significant that youngsters who have previously benefited from the help given by this charity are prepared to come back and help others who are suffering the same type of difficulties that they have themselves previously experienced and overcome.

Please give generously.

I hope the weather's good on the day. It is a tough challenge, and I wish you all the best with it. Donation by David Marriott on 28/05/08
