My story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

Many thanks for your support. In 1859 my great, great grandfather, Thomas Taylor, was captain of one of the world's first steam clippers, the Royal Charter. The ship was on passage from Melbourne to Liverpool when she was overtaken by a hurricane less than 50 miles from home. Despite the strength of the ship and the valiant efforts of her crew she was wrecked on the north shore of Anglesey. Less than 40 were saved and more than 450 men, women and children died, including my great, great granddad. If the incident had happened today the Moelfre, Holyhead and Llandudo lifeboats would have been able to go to the rescue and many, many more lives would have been saved. So, this spring I am sailing around the United Kingdom to raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute as a tribute to those who still put themselves in danger to save others. Our motorboat (Left with Falmouth Lifeboat) is the type used by the RNLI in training its all-weather crews. It costs £1000 to train each new crew member so the proceeds of this fundraising effort will go to this crucial cause. The whole of the proceeds will go to the RNLI 'Train One Save Many' campaign as I shall be covering all the costs of the trip. For more information about the training scheme go to www.rnli.org.uk/crewtraining
