I'm going to be spending a night sleep rough for Exeter YMCA. Still not 100% sure why I'm doing this...but I think it might be that as a worker for the YMCA I've seen first hand some of the people affected by rough sleeping and it's a very sad situation to be in. I have no pretence that one night will give me a full understanding of it but hopefully will help me know more and be able to work better with the young men and women we support. I also didn't appreciate how big a problem homelessness was until I started working here and hope that by doing this others might start to notice it as well and want to do something about it. All the money raised will go directly to Exeter YMCA's work in helping homeless young people in Devon. Youth homelessness is on the rise and by taking part in the Sleep Easy you can be part of the solution. Through your support, Exeter YMCA is able to provide over 14,000 nights’ accommodation a year to vulnerable young people. We also provide tailored support, helping our young people to overcome the problems which have blighted their pasts. Finally, we equip our young people to lead positive, happy and fulfilling futures.
£60 could provide brand new kit for when a new Exeter YMCA resident moves in; such as a duvet and pillows, cutlery and crockery, oven gloves etc.
£75 could provide ongoing support for one young person for one month after they Exeter YMCA accommodation;
£180 could provide 6 group sessions a year for 8 young people such as, job clubs, cooking classes, budgeting skills, etc.
