Year 1
42kms round Lismore
Andy entered the water at Point at 6am on Monday 30 August 2004. He had a rough time of it going down the back of the island. The winds, which had dropped from the gales at the weekend, picked up and caused about a mile of swells which just broke over Andy's body. This caused Andy to take in a bit of salt water, which in turn made him throw up a few times.
However it didn't make him want to quit, and he continued his swim, getting round through the Rip at the Lighthouse at the South end of the island by 12.10!
The swim up the front of the island was much gentler, as the island provided shelter from the winds. He experienced a negative tide going through the Kilcheran islands, which meant him swimming back and going outside them.
Dave, on the support boat reckoned that Andy would be getting back to Point around 6pm. This news was passed round the island, however, due to good swimming and a good tide, Andy touched back at Point at 5pm. Meaning he only took 11 hours to go round the island.
On exiting the water, Andy promised he'd never swim round Lismore again, but was looking forward to next year's challenge, swimming round Mull. Its a lot longer but he's got 9 days to do it in!

Cape Wrath to Land's End
Andy Jamieson
An employee of Foster Yeoman, Andy is one of the Port Appin to Lismore Ferrymen and if you don't see him on the ferry, you are most likely to see him swimming in the sea.
This year, Andy intends to swim around the island of Lismore to raise funds for the Anthony Nolan Trust, and for the children of Lismore. The swim will hopefully take place on Sunday 29 August, but this will of course depend on the weather!
This year Andy would like to raise £35,000. The 90% of the total raised will go to the Anthony Nolan Trust, and the other 10% to the Youth Club on Lismore to allow for some of the children's' projects to be completed, and for others to be planned.
The Anthony Nolan Trust
Every year, thousands of people with bone marrow diseases such as leukaemia, aplastic anaemia and inborn metabolic and immune deficiency disorders, reach a stage where only a bone marrow transplant can possibly save them.
Family members, particularly brothers and sisters, can make the best matches. However, this is not always possible and patients must hope that an unrelated volunteer donor will be found.
What Next?
2005
Now you may think that swimming 42kms would be enough for anyone, but in 2005, Andy intends to swim around the Island of Mull.
That swim will be over 200kms in length and Andy reckons it will take him around 9 days to complete the swim.
As with this year, the majority of the funds raised will go to the Anthony Nolan Trust, with a small percentage also going to the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI).
Andy hasn't yet decided on a fundraising total to aspire to...
2006
2006 sees Andy celebrate his 40th birthday. Turning 40 is a bit special, and to celebrate this he intends to swim from Cape Wrath on the North Coast of Scotland, all the way down the West Coast until he reaches Land's End.
This swim has never before been attempted, and Andy reckons because it is such an unusual event, it deserves a lot of fundraising. He's decided a minimum of £1million should be raised for The Anthony Nolan Trust, again with some funds going to the RNLI.
