Thats right this year will be my second marathon year, training is well under way, ive already had my first injury and have had a nasty cold. So its probably a good time to reflect on last years marathon to raise the spirits.
People always ask me what the first thing that went through my mind was when I crossed the finish line at last years Flora London Marathon.
Was it the huge sense of achievement?, joy that it was over?, excitement?, pain?, or perhaps an overwelming sense of satisfaction?
But the answer is always the same. Food!!
I was starving and I couldnt wait to tuck into the freebies in the goodie bag.
But after that few seconds had past I began to realise what a massive journey I had travelled to get to that point. A marathon is far more than the 26.2 miles that you run on the day. Its about the thousands of hours spent training, maintaining a balanced diet of 70% carbs 20% protein and 10% fats. ( Or in other words eating lashings of pasta for months). But most of all its about focusing on a goal and following it through. My goal was always the Disabilities Trust.
Training for a Marathon is hard work, running a marathon is even harder. Knowing that I am helping to raise thousands of pounds for the Disabilities Trust, a charity that provides such crucial services for people all over the country, makes every step feel effortless. I am honoured to be able to lend my support again in 2006 by running for the Disabilities Trust. I know that with their never failing support that I can run faster and raise even more money for such a worthy cause with your help.
Im in the process of organising our second 48 hour charity carp fishing competition. We ran the event last year and raised a staggering £1725 from it. We have 30 anglers fishing this year and its looking like it will be a stunning event. Local businesses have been very generous with donations of prizes for the raffle and there is sure to be a few laughs along the way with some top anglers and friends fishing the event.
Just got back from the race and was really pleased to run 4 minutes faster than I had hoped and finished in 3hrs 11mins. Thanks to the trust and all the trust runners who made this years event really special.
