My story

Update - I did it!!

Phew - I made it!  It was exhausting and sitting down wasn't too comfy on Monday but I made it all the way round and everyone's very kind and generous donations made it all worth while - THANK YOU!! (although there's still 90 days left to donate if you get an unexpected windfall!)

Training Update - 3 days to go!

Well, I thought I should go for a bike ride on Saturday to get myself started but Greg made me watch the footie (West Ham v Man Utd) and I fell asleep!

I've received my official bikeathon t-shirt and instructions which show that the route is actually 28.1 miles - aarrgghh!!

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I know it’s only 2 and a half weeks away but I’ve just decided to take part in the Woking bikeathon and would really appreciate it if you’re able to sponsor me.

I don’t exercise regularly and I haven’t been on my bike for about a year so cycling 26 miles(!) is going to require a big effort but I’m very stubborn and will certainly make it to the finish, it might just take me a while!

The reason for this sudden decision is, unfortunately, not a happy one.  Last week I found out that my friend’s 8-year old daughter has leukaemia.  I know it was a big shock to me so I can barely fathom how my dear friend must have felt when she found out that her beautiful little girl is seriously ill.  The good news is that she’s finished her first block of intensive treatment and is responding very well but she has another 22 months of treatment to go which must feel like a lifetime when you’re only 8.

I’ve been feeling quite useless this last week and have been trying to think of something constructive I could do to help.  This morning I remembered that another friend and her family are doing the bikeathon and that it raises money for Leukaemia Research.  My first idea was to sponsor them some more and maybe think about doing it myself next year but I’ve now decided to not be so chicken and go for it myself!!!

I know it’s a daft idea and I will ache for days afterwards but if I can raise some money to help the research that might help someone I love, then it’ll be worth it.

Thanks for taking time to read this.
Take care, A xx
