I have now finished running around Lake Windermere for ten days to raise funds for Brathay. I completed the challenge in a new women's World Record time, a total of 39 hours, 7 minutes and 49 seconds - almost 2 hours faster than the previous record. The '10 in 10' attracted me for both the challenge and the charity.I've been running for about ten years and in that time run a few marathons, including some ultramarathons (recently completing my 100th marathon), but never anything as demanding as running a total of 262 miles in just ten days! Brathay's purpose it to enable children and young people to make positive choices by taking personal responsibility for improving their wellbeing. They organise a range of projects to work with those under the age of 25 who are most disadvantaged or vulnerable, who have suffered abuse or neglect, social exclusion or who are outside employment, education and training. The projects often include visits to the beautiful environment around Brathay Hall in the Lake District, often the first time these young people have been outside an urban setting. They help children and young people have access to formal and informal education to enable them to fulfil their potential.
