This year, rather than the 'normal' 10K, we decided it would be good to have a bit more of a challenge and opted for a duathlon - 10k run, 20k cycle, 5k run!
You won't be surprised that I am again trying to raise finds for AET so that they can continue their work in and around Manchester.
Most of you are well aware of the refurbishment of Coniston happening at the moment.
AET has also set up links with Monkole Hospital in DR Congo. The hospital, opened in 1991 serves three districts whose half million people are refugees from DR Congo's recent years of civil war. At the moment Monkole is equipped to carry out 350 surgical opeations a year, which falls far short of demand. The hospital has very little space for women and children, who are particularly endangered in this under-developed country. AET is helping to raise funds for a Mother and Child wing which will consist of a ward with 130 beds, a surgery section, and a department for complementary medicine.
