Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I did not want presents or cards but to raise some money for KIN. KIN was set up by a couple from my church in Wilmslow and thus all the money raised is going to help the slum dwellers. In addition I was fortunate enough to experience Kibera at first hand in 2004 when part of a group of Geographers on a study tour of Kenya. We spent a day with Oxfam workers viewing the various projects Oxfam were sponsoring in the slum. Despite years of teaching about such slums it was very memorable to see the positive as well as negative aspects of the area.
KIN works to alleviate the effects of poverty in the Kibera slum, Nairobi, Kenya where in excess of 800,000 people endure inadequate housing and poor sanitation. KIN has a number of projects in place supporting orphaned and vulnerable children and also funding their education. KIN also provides money for microfinance enabling Kibera residents to set up tiny businesses and earn and income and some dignity. More information on KIN can be found at http://www.kiberainneed.org/ or by emailing info@kiberainneed.org
