About Arthritis Research Campaign
The Arthritis Research Campaign (ARC), founded in 1936, raises funds to promote medical research into the cause, treatment and cure of arthritic conditions: to educate medical students, doctors and allied healthcare professionals about arthritis and to provide information to people affected by arthritis and to the general public.
Arthritis is the single biggest cause of disability in the UK and accounts for one-fifth of all visits to the doctor. Around 8 million people are affected, including one child in every thousand belying the perception that arthritis only affects the elderly.
The Arthritis Research Campaign is the only major medical research charity in the UK investigating arthritis in all its forms. Millions of pounds are provided every year for grants funding research, education and training.
Arthritis Research Campaign is a registered charity with three objectives:
To advance the study of and research into the causes, treatment and cure of arthritis and other rheumatic disease and disseminate the useful results of that research
- To advance the education of the public by promoting the teaching of rheumatology and further understanding of rheumatic disease among medical students and practitioners and other persons involved in the treatment of rheumatic disease
- To advance the education of the public in all matters relating to rheumatic disease including those persons suffering from the disease
