In August 2007, I will attempt to break the world record for the Arch To Arc challenge, a  289 mile triathlon from Marble Arch in London to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

Imagine running 87 miles – the equivalent of running three and a third marathons back-to-back – swimming 22 miles across the English channel and then cycling 187 miles and you have will have some idea of why this is one of the world's ultimate endurance challenges.

The current record is 81 hours 5 minutes; the clock starts ticking as soon as I start running towards Park Lane and does not stop until I reach the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

I have chosen two worthy children's charities as beneficiaries, one in my chosen country of residence, Wooden Spoon, and one in my country of birth, The Nelson Mandela Children's Fund (NMCF).

Wooden Spoon is the charity of British and Irish Rugby and supports children and young people who are physically, mentally or socially disadvantaged. Since its inception in 1983, Wooden Spoon has raised over £11m through its 40 regional volunteer committees and national fundraising events ensuring that in excess of 500,000 children have had their lives enhanced through the work of Wooden Spoon.

Founded by Nelson Mandela in 1994, NMCF works to improve the lives of vulnerable children in South Africa with programmes that address HIV and Aids, disability, and that build confidence, self esteem and prepare young people for a healthy and productive future.

If you would like to know more about my challenge you can contact me on 07932 073861 or take a look at my website:  www.juliancrabtree.com

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me : Wooden Spoon will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Thank you for your support.
