In February 2007 a friend and I participated in a charity trek in Tanzania and during the expedition visited the school pictured. It was an extremely touching experience. The school has almost 400 pupils and faces a serious lack of space and a severe shortage of teaching supplies with up to five pupils sharing one desk made for two and one pencil between those five. With the hard work, dedication and infallible enthusiasm of my trek friend Laura Clark we are now working with Community Projects Africa and the local maasai community to go back to the school in October with a team of people to build and furnish two classrooms at the school. I also hope that as a group we raise enough funds to finance teaching posts for the school. Involvement in such a physical and emotional project, working alongside local people, connecting with the Maasai culture, making a real difference to their lives will be incredibly rewarding and it will be wonderful to have such a direct positive impact on the lives of so many children.
