About A Rocha UK

Through hands-on conservation, communication and education, A Rocha UK is working across the nation to encourage care for all of God’s creation.

Its flagship project, ‘Living Waterways’, has pioneered the vision of ‘a greener, cleaner Southall and Hayes’ in multi-ethnic west London. It has catalysed the transformation of urban wasteland into a 90-acre country park and undertakes scientific research and practical conservation.

Two Education Officers are helping local schools to teach children about environmental and sustainable development issues. It has a strong community development focus and involves many local volunteers.

It also has a major national communication function, which in the last year saw members speaking to over 10,000 people. Rooted in practical action, A Rocha encourages and inspires others to do what they can to integrate creation-care into their lifestyles and local community.

It is currently moving into a new phase, developing further practical initiatives around the country.

Your money will help people both in polluted and impoverished west London and across the UK to learn about the wonder of creation and live in a way that conserves and enhances this amazing world.

Our history

A Rocha (Portuguese for ‘The Rock’) was founded in 1983 when Peter and Miranda Harris pioneered a Christian field studies centre in the Alvor estuary in Portugal.

A Rocha is now working in more than 15 countries delivering Christian-based conservation and environmental education projects. A Rocha UK was launched in 2001.
