About Alzheimer's Research Trust
The Alzheimer's Research Trust is the leading charity funding UK research to combat Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. With the aim of finding a fully effective treatment or prevention, the Trust:
- funds major research programmes
- provides information on Alzheimer's to the public and medical community
- funds PhD scholars to encourage the brightest young scientists to stay in the field
- supports a network creating more effective and efficient links between the leading UK Alzheimer's research centres
- funds essential scientific equipment
- funds Fellowships which make important contributions to research.
There are over half a million people with Alzheimer's disease in the UK today. With an ageing population, the number of sufferers is predicted to double within the next twenty years.
Despite encouraging advances in recent research, there is still no cure for Alzheimer's disease. Research into Alzheimer's is severely under-funded - it receives only £11 per sufferer per year compared with £289 for cancer. There is a desperate need for more research.
The Alzheimer's Research Trust is dedicated to building on and expanding its work to overcome this devastating disease. With no government funding, voluntary donations are vital to the Trust's future.
