Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In a moment of madness, and despite my obvious lack of fitness and mountaineering skills, I (along with my housemate Kate) have decided to climb Mt Kilimanjaro in June 2010 for the Alzheimer's Society. We have previously used this page to raise joint funds, though thought we'd make the challenge harder by raising the rest by ourselves!! I have a personal minimum fundraising target of £3500 for this trip, of which a small proportion will be used to cover costs. The rest will directly benefit the society. As this was originally a joint page and funds were split 50/50, the target I aim to raise is now £4125 (some of the original money going towards Kate's funds). Money raised will not only go towards Alzheimer's research, but also providing day-care facilities for sufferers and respite for carers.

Here's the sciencey bit:;

£1,250 pays to run Talking Point for one month. Talking Point is the Alzheimer's society's 24/7 online community for people with dementia, their carers, family and friends.

£2,000 could support over 10,000 families with vital advice on how to talk to children about dementia.

£5,000 could support a researcher for 1 year with the chemicals and equiptment they need to further understand the causes of dementia, so that better treatments can be developed and a search for the cure can continue.

We chose Alzheimer's because it's a charity particularly close to Kate's heart. Having seen the effects that Alzheimer's and Dementia can have on sufferers, friends and families, and having spent time working for the Society in the past, this is a great opportunity to raise money for a charity that can make a real practical impact on people's lives and wellbeing.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Any donations no matter how small would be gratefully received and appreciated!!

Thanks to all in advance, much love
