This academic year 2011-2012 sees the Headmaster and staff of Ashdown House take on an exciting set of challenges to raise vital funds for the charity Kids Company.  The aim is to complete a 1000km on foot, in the water and by bicycle to raise £10,000 before August 31st 2012.

The campaign has kicked off with the completion of a 3.8km swim in the Eton Rowing Lake by Regan Schreiber and Dominic Floyd.  George de Moraville and Maria Floyd have both completed half-marathons successfully and Dominic Floyd yomped 42km on the South Downs on Palm Sunday.

Now all that remains is the herculean challenge of cycling from Chateau de Sauveterre in the Pyrenees to Ashdown House within 7 days in the heat of the French sun.  Four Cothill Educational Trust Headmasters (Dominic Floyd, Duncan Bailey, Neil Bailey and Ben Beardmore-Grey) and Director of Studies (Paddy Mason) take on the challenge, setting off on the 24th July.  Will they still be speaking at the end of it?!

When you hear of children who do not have the luxury of food on their plate, a bed to sleep in or the love and care of their parents, it becomes obvious that we must take a stance and do something to help.

Your money will help impoverished children in the UK get their lives on track in a safe and secure environment.

Kids Company provides practical, emotional and educational support to vulnerable inner-city children.

Their services reach 14,000 children across London, including the most deprived and at risk whose parents are unable to care for them due to their own practical and emotional challenges. For many, the roles of adult and child are reversed and, despite profound love, both struggle to survive.

These exceptionally vulnerable children not only negotiate significant challenges in their family homes, they also face immense threat within their neighbourhoods. Kids Company provide a  safe, caring, family environment where support is tailored to the needs of each individual. Our services and support empower children who have experienced enormous challenges to lead positive and fulfilling lives. Despite great difficulties, the children we work with are hugely courageous and embrace the support we offer.
