Thank you for taking time to look at my JustGiving page.
I came to London with ambitions of being an actor; learning lines, fitting a costume, hanging out in the dressing room, being on stage...
And then I started university! Suddenly, not only was I seeing shows in the heart of the West End or above a pub I was being thrust on stage in class - and all I wanted to was hide.
It was first year first term and I thought the feelings would subside. They didn't. But there was no way I could walk away from the theatre. My whole life was geared towards being part of the magical worlds it creates. We started a "technical course" with rotations of six weeks in the disciplines of stage management, light, sound and sceneography and to my surprise I discovered a real joy for stage management.
Instead of being all about risk assessments and red tape I indeed found myself learning lines, fitting a costume, hanging out in the dressing room, being on stage...and a whole lot more. I found a passion and a need to be on a project, to be the nucleas of a company and to know everything about everything on each production.
I realised I didn't need to walk away from the theatre, just change the direction of which I was heading, change the ambition and become a stage manager. Despite my forthrightness in gaining experience I still feel it is necessary for me to train in all the technical areas as I would like to have a strong knowledge of the basics, instead of my sparodic skills and know-how learned on the job.
A life-long dream of mine, I feel very honoured to be only one of 30 accepted this year by RADA, but as a post-graduate student I am unable to apply for further government funding. Although I have two jobs I am trying to raise the course fee as well as maintenance costs and so ANY amount that you are willing to give is greatly appreciated and a massive help towards my target.
In return sponsers recieve student progress reports and donations over £500 recieve credit in all relevant RADA publications and invitations to attend the student productions each term.
Many, many thanks.
