This year the Assynt Mountain Rescue Team has been much busier than normal. We've been doing searches for missing people, helping rescue people, performing first aid on casualties, etc and continuing an extensive training programme to ensure that all of our volunteers can provide as high a level of professional service to members of the public as possible. Because we have been much busier, its meant that our operating costs have been higher.
We hold an annual sponsored walk to help raise funds for our charitable work. I'm sure that you'll agree that unpaid volunteers providing a professional level of service is good value for money. We need to raise funds partly to cover ongoing expenses associated with running the mountain rescue team but also to help replace equipment as it becomes damaged/used (e.g. bandages, ropes, vehicles, etc).
