INSPIRING COMMUNITIES THROUGH YOUNG ROLE MODELS

Thank you for visiting the Balls To Poverty sponsorship site. Student Athletes from South Nottingham College’s Football and Rugby Performance Programmes will be returning to South Africa in 2009 for the fifth consecutive year.  More than 70 different students have coached over 20,000 young South Africans and have distributed over 20,000 balls across 13 townships since the programmed started in 2005

The group of 34 students, four of whom will be girls, will distribute over 3,000 football and rugby balls across deprived township communities in The Transkei region of The Eastern Cape and in Cape Town. The students will also provide football and rugby coaching to over 3,000 young South African children from these townships.

Balls To Poverty reaches out to the young children in South Africa and provides a vehicle for social and academic development of students from Nottingham.  Many of the students from the college have completed their studies and a large percentage are now studying Degrees at University, not only in the UK but also in the USA.

These achievements highlight the success and impact on both levels. Demonstrating how sport can be used as a tool to keep youngsters in education and away from negative social issues.

May I thank you for donating to this worthy cause and if you would like further details please do not hesitate to contact Joe Sargison, Director of Athlete Performance Programme on joe.Sargison@snc.ac.uk
