The SYC supports all children through the practice of yoga, with an emphasis on special needs. Yoga develops emotional and physical well being enabling children and adults to reach full potential. They are dedicated to making yoga accessible to all regardless of age, disability, economic status, ethnic background or religion.

My story

Hi Everyone

Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.

I am raising funds for The Special Yoga Centre (SYC). It is a fabulous charity and is the UK home of The Yoga for the Special Child programme LLB, a programme that supports children with range of conditions, including cerebral palsy, Down's syndrome, autism, epilepsy, ADD and ADHD, and other physical and developmental difficulties.

Every one-to-one class costs £55 to run, this includes Therapist fees, room rental and coordination. The typical donation from the families is £5-£10, so the SYC have to fundraise the rest. For one yoga therapy class it's £55, for 5 it costs £275, for 10 £550 and so on.

SYC also hold regular classes for children on the autistic spectrum and those with cerebral palsy. All children are required to attend some one-to-one sessions before to transition easily into the groups.

I first came across SYC whilst completing my yoga teaching training. During my well deserved tea-breaks I came across some of the children and their parents in the common room areas and what sticks in my mind the most is how happy all the children and parents are.

So please dig into your pockets to support the hard but rewarding work of the SYC.
