Barnet And Chase Farm Hospitals are embarking on their biggest fundraising appeal - to raise £1.5million for the 'da Vinci Robot'. This is one of the most advanced surgical systems in the world. It uses robotic and computer technology to enhance the surgeon's vision and movement during keyhole surgery, resulting in significantly less pain, less blood loss, less risk of wound infection, reduced scarring and faster recovery times for patients. This state of the art device will modernise the way the Trust carries out minimally invasive surgery.

How does it work?

The da Vinci Robot uses robotic and computer technology to enhance the surgeon’s vision and movement during keyhole surgery, enabling more advanced minimally invasive surgery to be undertaken. This will increasethe number of patients who will benefit from the faster recovery and reduced hospital stay that keyhole surgery provides. Surgeons will use the robot’s improved and magnified 3D vision system to provide them even greater precision in their work. Surgery is performed through small ports rather than large incisions, with the surgeon operating the instruments attached to the robot’s arm from a console. With its 3D view and advanced computer controlled instrument, the da Vinci Robot aids the surgeon in more easily indentifying and dissecting vital body organs such as the delicate nerves and blood vessels surrounding the surgical site.

HELP US CUT OUT CANCER!

Me and Nadine have thought of going skydiving just for fun but thought, "We might as well raise money for charity if we're going to do it anyway" which is why I will be doing a sponsored skydive along with Nadine Bristowe(Junior Sister, Damson Ward) on the 25th September 2010 to raise as much money as we can so please help us reach our goal. We chose to raise money for this appeal as we think that the 'da Vinci Robot' will be a huge benefit to the trust and enable patients to have a far more tolerable procedure thus resulting in less prolonged hospital stays. It will enable surgeons to an advanced minimal invasive surgery. For example, according to Intuitive Surgical, only 80,000 out of 230,000 new cases of prostate cancer undergo surgery because of the high risk invasive surgery carries, implying that more people may undergo surgery with this evolving technology.

Please please please dig deep. This is a breakthrough in surgery and will help cut out cancer and reduce any risks in major surgeries.

Anything you give will be much appreciated :) You'd change so many peoples lives. Please help us raise money for this charity!

Thank you soooo much!
