Last July, floods on the River Severn devastated the town of Tewkesbury, in Gloucestershire. They also claimed the lives of 64-year-old Bram Lane, treasurer and founder member of Tewkesbury Rugby Club, and his 27-year-old son Chris, who played for the club. They were pumping out the flooded clubhouse when they were overcome by fumes from the pump. Their bodies were found the following morning. They died helping others, and showing the volunteer spirit that keeps so many sports clubs going, throughout the country.
Gloucester play Wasps at Adams Park, High Wycombe, on Sunday May the 4th. On Tuesday, April the 29th, a group of supporters from both clubs will be setting off from Gloucester's ground at Kingsholm, on a walk to raise funds in memory of Bram and Chris. We aim to arrive at Adams Park for the game on the Sunday, and will be staying at rugby clubs en route.
The Lane family have nominated the Salvation Army and Breast Cancer Care as the two charities they would like to benefit from our fundraising. I have set up a separate page for donations to Breast Cancer Care.
