I DID IT!
As I jumped off the boat into the water at 7.15am, on Saturday, September 13th, my goal to be the Welshman from Alcatraz seemed one of my dafter ideas - and I have a few in my time.
The refreshing Pacific Ocean temperature was 64F/17C (your local baths is 29-30C). It was a calm morning with only a slight sea swell. The good news was there were no sharks in sight. A couple of curious seals did come over to see this white sea lion thrashing about in the water, but soon got bored. The previous day a seal popped up 10 feet away from me, as I trained in the old harbour. That was disconcerting, to say the least!.
I swam naked apart from my Speedos, goggles and rubber Wales hat. Special thanks to my pilot boat team: Gary Emich of South End Rowing club, Rick the pilot and my best mate Dave for not throwing shark bait in the water.
Many thanks to all of you who have already sponsored me and those of you who will be. It is very much appreciated.
There are lots of photos of how cold it looks at
