In October 2010, two tests of physical fitness are taking place in aid of Cure Parkinson's:

Firstly, Dave, Katie, Dean and Christina will be packing their backpacks and heading to Nepal to trek to the base camp of the highest mountain in the world. This will take them to well over 5,500m above sea level, where frostbite and altitude sickness are just two of the inherent risks.

And if that's not enough, on October 10th (the day before the Everest team gets to base camp) Jonathan will be running the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon in London. Whilst this may not be as far flung as Nepal, he still hopes to raise as much money as possible for this fantastic cause, especially for embarking on such a challenge despite his questionable level of fitness.

The Everest Base Camp 2010 team and Jonathan look forward to your support and success in their challenges!

Background to Everest Base Camp 2010:

In 1996 during Dean's posting at Chatham with the Royal Engineers, he met Arjun and Dharma, two Queen's Gurkha's Engineers. He became very interested in their origins, and discovered a lot about their home country of Nepal from the many stories they told. Combined with his enjoyment of hill walking, this was what inspired Dean to have a passion to visit Nepal and trek to Base Camp.

In 2008, Dean realised the time had come to turn his dreams into reality. After many emails to friends, and many people keen but not able to commit, the team was formed!

Flights are now booked, and plans are in place to raise as much money as possible for the three charities we will be supporting: Marie Curie Cancer Care, The Cure Parkinson's Trust, and Child Welfare Scheme.

We will be hosting a couple of fundraising events over the next few months - a golf tournament at the end of May, and an auction at the beginning on July, both in Edinburgh - to help us maximise our fundraising. In the meantime, please give generously on one of our fundraising pages!

Our joint training consists of climbing to the highest peaks is Scotland, England and Wales. We will be heading to the Lake District to climb Scarfell Pike in April, followed by Ben Nevis in May, and Snowdon in July. We will keep you posted on our progress!
