Story
Hi there thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm going to South Africa in June 2017 to run Comrades! An ultra marathon of 87km, that's over 2 marathons in one go.
The run goes from Durban to Pietermaritzburg, & in odd numbered years it is known as the 'Up Run' because you go up more hills than you go down.
You can come with me on this journey by following my videos at http://www.youtube.com/user/baze187
Why Comrades?
In the past I have run marathons, & I even leveled up difficulty in 2016 by doing a Marathon on the Great Wall of China. If I want to keep inspiring people to give to good causes I have to make each challenge harder & this ridiculously far distance makes this my toughest running challenge yet. It's über expensive to go to Comrades & ordinarily would cost too much to make it a viable charity project. However due to a massive stroke of luck I won the Capri-Sun Squeeze the day contest, & won this amazing bucket list adventure (see here http://tinyurl.com/hzbzmky). Capri-Sun are covering all my flights, race entry & running kit, so you know your donation is going to the ME Assocation without any deductions for my participation in the race.
Why The ME Assocation?
My cousin Becky has ME & was diagnosed whilst at university. She was an active person & a member of the university cheerleading squad, but all this changed once she was diagnosed. She has had to change her life a lot & suffers pain frequently. This makes ME a cause close to my heart & if I can help to fund the research towards a cure it's the least I can do.
What is ME?
ME (Myalgic Encephalopathy), or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, is an illness that blights the lives of 250,000 people in UK today. Even the smallest exertion can floor them; their joints and muscles ache unbearably; restful sleep eludes them; and ‘brain fog’ clouds even the smallest judgment. It changes their lives drastically – disrupting education; sometimes making employment impossible; and straining family relations to breaking point. People may be housebound or confined to bed for many months or years. There is no known cure. The ME AssociationThe ME Association has been campaigning for years to have ME recognised as a severe neurological illness that deserves to be taken seriously. We are working tirelessly to promote research into the physical nature and causes of the illness so that it can be diagnosed quickly and in the hope that a cure, one day, can be found. We also support ME sufferers and their families through our ME Connect helpline. The money that you raise will go towards The ME Association’s work in these areas - campaigning, support and research.
