Thanks for visiting my page!
Even though I'm a 'fitness-freak', running isn't my strong point, as those who've seen me try will agree! (lack of coordination and a bad sense of direction do not help!) ...But somehow, I still agreed to do the Manchester 10K with my sister, and I decided if I was going to embarrass myself, I'd do it for charity, and for a greatly overlooked cause that is very close to me.
Eating related illnesses are still thought of as a taboo, or simply as a self-obsession/ vanity, or a gimmicky 'size zero'!! But growing by the year, they affect at least 1.1 million people in the (only 90,000 of these are being treated), with a mortality rate of up to 20% for anorexia alone. Mainly girls between the ages of 14-25 are affected, however children as young as 9 have been diagnosed in more recent years, and 10% of all cases are male.
My aim is to raise money to help those supporting people suffering with eating disorders, as I know how isolating, and sometimes life-threatening, the illnesses can be. But I also really want to raise awareness, and hopefully a better understanding of what eating disorders are, because I've heard just about every misconception you can think of!
