My story

Hi there!

We did it! On Saturday 12th September 2009 at 7.30am I made the summit of Kili at Gillman's Point at 5,681m above sea level & at 9am Ben made it to Kili's highest point - Uhuru Peak at 5,895m! Even though I got altitude sickness the whole trip was totally amazing. All 11 in our group made it to the summit and our 6 guides & 31 porters were fantastic and made our 6 days (4 up and 2 down) totally unforgettable. Thank you so much to everyone who has sponsored us... we can't believe we've raised so much money! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! :)

I can't believe the time has come, we go to Tanzania tonight (Sunday 6th Sept) which is also Ashley's anniversary (miss you lots Ash)!
Thank you so much to everyone that has sponsored us... really thank you... check this space in 3 weeks when we return and we'll let you know how we got on... :) xx

Ben Randall and I are climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania this September in memory of our good friend Ashley Masella. We had planned all along to try and raise money for 2 very worth while charities. One for the cancer Charity "Sarcoma Trust" as this is the type of cancer Ashley had but also we wanted to fundraise for a childrens charity / orphanage in Tanzania... to give something back to the country where we will go to climb this wonderful mountain and also because Ashley was a wonderful mum & loved children especially her own little boy Lyden.

We've decided to raise money for Kids Aid Tanzania which helps 2 orphanages in Tanzania which cater for about 100 orphaned & disabled children. You can check out their nice little website here www.kidsaidtanzania.org.uk and see how past fundraising has made a difference.

It costs £15 a month to care for 100 children. £3 will buy a replacement mosquito net to protect a sleeping child from being bitten by malaria-carrying mosquitoes. £12 will provide for a primary school uniform, exercise books and pens. £25 will buy a large sack of maize flour to make ugali, which will feed all the children for several meals.

Of course we don't expect people to donate to both pages, it's just nice to collect money for 2 very worth while charities. If you would prefer to donate towards our cancer charity please go to... http://www.justgiving.com/clodagh-ben-kilimanjaro

Oh Yes, just to let u know that we are paying for our trip to Kilimanjaro fully ourselves & all money raised goes direct to the charities! :)

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Kids Aid Tanzania gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Thank you for your support.

Clodagh & Ben :)
