In July of last year a very dear relative of my partner, Christine Peatman, passed away after having suffered with cancer. The cancer was already advanced when it was found so we do not know exactly how long Chris had the illness but were told in April that it was terminal.

As many will know, Macmillan Cancer Support do a great deal for cancer sufferers and provide excellent practical and financial support to families, at home and in specialist centres. Unfortunately this option was not available to Chris as Macmillan do not operate in the area where she lived. Luckily another charity, St Mary's Hospice, were able to provide care and support to Chris and her family. With St Mary's help the family did all they could caring for Chris at home for as long as possible, and in her final days Chris became an inpatient at the Hospice where she received the best care available. Her family were always by her side.

Now for the happier news!

You can help St Mary's Hospice provide future care and support! A few weeks ago, I decided to run the world's first 'kilomathon' (26.1 kilometres) in aid of St Mary's Hospice! Any money raised will go to help the many more families who are having to cope with the terrible stress that cancer and other life-limiting illnesses bring. Any donation, no matter how small, will make a difference to people's lives.

St Mary's provide an invaluable service and we would like to raise as much as possible for their support. The cost of running the Hospice for one hour is £650, if we could raise this amount it would be a great gift to give to the Hospice. You can find out more about the services St Mary's offer here and other information about the Hospice itself here.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this and for your support.  The kilomathon was an awesome event.  I finished in 2 hrs 18 mins and 3 seconds, a personal best!  This also puts me in the top 1400 kilomathoners in the world at the moment, until the next kilomathon....
