My story

Ben Nevis Charity Walk

Our football team, are embarking upon a gruelling journey to Ben Nevis, Scotland to complete a charity walk. At 1,344 metres, Britain’s highest mountain is an impressive presence that towers over Fort William. After setting off from Birmingham, we will be travelling for up to 8 hours to Scotland. This will be followed by a possible 5 hour walk up the mountain and then a 4 hour walk down again.

Africa Education Trust

AET aims to ensure that those who have missed out in the past are given the opportunity to gain education and vocational skills  -  girls and young women, people in rural areas, minorities, people with disabilities and refugees and the internally displaced. Each year of education increases a persons life long earnings. The Africa Educational Trust works in some of the poorest countries in Africa, places which have been affected not only by poverty, famine and drought but which have also been affected by conflict and war, places like Somalia, South Sudan and Northern Uganda.

In the 50 years since its establishment, AET has helped over 750,000 disadvantaged children and young people from Africa to access education and training. Today we mainly operate in conflict-affected regions of Africa. Such areas often receive little international aid for education as donors tend to limit their support to immediate humanitarian assistance. Yet conflict-affected areas have the lowest levels of access to education in the world, and it is in these areas that we must urgently focus our energies if we are to make progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goal of universal primary education by 2015.
