A few mad people have decided to do a 10k run (either in Worksop on 9 May or Manchester on 16 May) - and Jack, the youngest member of our team, is doing a 1.5k run at Worksop. Our Worksop team is Sarah Lynch (with the support of Duncan Lennox), Colin Beesley and Jack Jackson-Saville. Our massive Manchester team is Roger Purkiss, Will Mason, Duncan Pointon, Simon and Emily Oakes, Paul Preston, Lee Tebbatt, Caroline Carney, Mike Carney, Richard and Reece Morgan, and Sally and Simon Hegarty.
We are trying to raise funds to buy an all terrain wheelchair for Benjamin. Benjamin has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a chronic degenerative muscle disorder. Benjamin can still walk shorter distances but for anything else he uses a wheelchair. His loves in life are travel and sport (hence the proud photo when Steven Quinn from Sheffield United visited his new room) but with his current wheelchair he cannot go on the beach or out in the snow any more and his family's ability to carry him is fading as he grows. They find themselves restricted to flat smooth surfaces which even rules out country walks. So the plan is to buy him an all terrain wheelchair which will be rather like using a mountain bike rather than a road bike. The NHS don't provide this and his family can't afford to buy it having just built extension for his bedroom now he can't do stairs so your help will be hugely appreciated. And if by a miracle we get beyond our target, the next purchase would be an item of specialist equipment for Ben's room (not yet needed but we could plan ahead), probably a variable height desk to accommodate him now and then as his type of wheelchair changes and a desk has to get higher.
