Story

Hello lovely people .. Thanks for visiting this page.

On this page I am hoping to raise £1000 for Clic. Here's what I plan to do for it . I'm going to RUN or ROW 500km in 100 days. I can tell you, now that I am 50 odd days into the challenge, I'm beginning to feel the pressure.

'What Pressure?' I hear you ask. '5 km a day for 100 days sounds achievable.' .. and I would have to agree with you. So, just to keep things interesting, I also set myself the challenge of cycling between London and Exeter right in the middle of the 100 days.

The knock on effect of the cycle event's training, is that I find myself at the beginning of June with over 400 km to run in less than 50 days. That's about 9 km a day. There's a log at the bottom of this panel that keeps track of what I've managed to do, and crucially, what I still HAVE to do.

So, I will keep on running and rowing, come rain or shine. Working my way through another pair of trainers, and loving very minute as soon as it's past.

For your part, would you pledge something in recognition of the effort, and spare me a thought at 6am while I'm puffing and wheezing my way through the kilometers.

On this page, you can pledge a total amount irrespective of the distance I cover... You could also sponsor my running / rowing at a rate of pennies per km covered. Thus if you pledge 1p / km and I cover 500km's by the 19th July, you will get a call from me asking for £5.00. Easy eh? To pledge pennies per km give me a ring on 07830 172 380, or drop me an email to ben@bananna-it.com. In fact any emails would be a welcome distraction.

As an incentive to all you pledgers, I promise a day of me to the highest pledger of all. You might task me with a hideous challenge to raise funds for your own favorite charity, or get me to paint your fence. Use your imagination. No challenge is too great (I'll regret saying that) ... the choice is yours.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: CLIC Sargent will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So, we're in June and the pressure is really mounting. I have to cover nearly 10Km every day for the next 3 weeks. My knees are shot, so I guess I'll be rowing a lot. Oddly enough, I haven't lost much weight - changed shape though.

You might be interested to know that the London to Exeter ride went off as planned on Sunday 27th May; the day the sky opened and delivered all that hideous weather. We left London at 3am and arrived in Exeter at 7pm after 11.5 hours cycling and 4.5 hours trying to recover feeling in our extremities.

We suffered 4 punctures, 2 of them in Honiton and the last just 1 mile outside Exeter. Respect to the other two riders: Jamie Howard and Nick Baron. It was the wettest, coldest, longest 16 hours of our lives. One hell of an experience.

Loved it

Ben
