Please support us in supporting others! We volunteer for a marathon and we ask you for a few moments of your time and a small donation to a charity that we admire and support. In return we shall promise to train for several months and do our best at performing well in the Berlin 2010 Marathon.

We are Tom Erik and Martin, two avid runners who have courageously decided to join this year´s Berlin Marathon.

Tom Erik: I don`t remember exactly when I fell in love with running, but for the last three years I have been doing it almost as often as I can. Besides being a nice way of keeping your body and mind in shape, it`s a great way of experiencing nature. We don`t neccessary run in order to compete with others, but find great pleasure in competing with ourselves and our own potentiales, which can always be improved. It`s my first marathon and I`ve set an optimistic goal of finishing below 02.50.00.

When Martin asked me whether I wanted to run for an organization, that added another and very important dimension to my goal of running a marathon. One really feels privileged being able to do one of the things you love the most,  whilst at the same time trying to raise money in order to help others less fortunate. I have been supporting MSF only for a short period of time myself, but have already seen the very important and lifesaving work they are able to carry out for those in need. Your donations will certainly make me push harder to reach my goal!

Martin: I am very excited about running another marathon! Last time was Nordmarka (June 2010) at 03:45:06 and London in 2005 (04:15:05) when I also did fundraising for Veniños (www.justgiving.com/mvm). In 2005 my goals were to 1. Fundraise as much as I could and 2. manage to finish the race without any injuries. In June my goal was to finish sub-4 hours and preferably below 03:45:00.

This time around I have much more running on my back and it is one of the activities I enjoy the most. Besides trying to raise as much money as I can for MSF my goal is to set a new personal best and finish the race under 03:30:00!

The more money we can raise, the more fun it gets to train and the easier it gets for us to reach our set goals!

There are many admirable charity organizations in the world - and it´s not about finding the best, but to choose the one that you identify with the most.

Médecins Sans Frontières is a unique organization in that it provides emergency medical aid and training where and when it is needed.

We chose to run for MSF as we support their belief in that all people have the right to medical care regardless of race, religion, creed or political affiliation, and that the needs of these people supersede respect for national borders

More about the organization (from Wikipedia):

The organization is known in most of the world by its French name or simply as MSF, but in the United States, Canada, Australia and Ireland the name 'Doctors Without Borders' is often used instead.

In 2007 over 26,000, mostly local, doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals, logistical experts, water and sanitation engineers and administrators provided medical aid in over 60 countries. Private donors provide about 80% of the organization's funding, while governmental and corporate donations provide the rest, giving MSF an annual budget of approximately USD 400 million.[4]

The organization actively provides health care and medical training to populations in more than 60 countries, and frequently insists on political responsibility in conflict zones such as Chechnya and Kosovo. Only once in its history, during the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, has the organisation called for military intervention. To be able to speak and act freely, MSF remains independent of any political, religious or economic powers. The majority of all MSF activities are paid for with private donations.

MSF received the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of its members' continuous effort to provide medical care in acute crises, as well as raising international awareness of potential humanitarian disasters.[5]
