Pancake Day 2011 was a lovely sunny day and there were sixteen runners. The elite (athletic) group quickly took the lead and Bev came close up behind them! She managed to run the race without stopping which was a great achievement! A fun race followed by the traditional Shriving Service involving all of the churches in Olney. Through this long-standing community event, Bev raised £610 for the MK Food Bank, with the help of Hannah to organise the fund raising. A big thank you to everybody!

I have lived in Olney for three years and I am a member of the Baptist Church. I am running in the Pancake Race this year so that I can raise money for the MK Food Bank (Reg. Charity 1084287).
The Food Bank benefits people in Olney, so I have chosen to run this local race to benefit local people.
The Food Bank is a local charity who provide emergency food parcels to families and individuals who hit a short term crisis, filling the gap of days or sometimes weeks before the professional care services can come into play. In the last year there has been high demand on the help that the Food Bank can give people across Milton Keynes and in Olney. You can find out more about the Food Bank at www.mkfoodbank.org.uk.
I am being helped by my daughter Hannah who is organising my fundraising efforts.
The Olney Pancake Race, dating back more than 500 years, will be held on Shrove Tuesday 8 March. The course is 415 yards long and is run from the Market Place to the Parish Church. Participants, housewives or young ladies of the town, must have lived in Olney for at least 3 months and be at least 18 years old.
Participants must carry a frying pan containing a home cooked pancake. The starter first tells the runners to ‘toss your pancakes’ and then starts the race. The winner, on crossing the line, must toss her pancake and she is then greeted by the verger with the traditional kiss of peace. Everyone is invited to attend the Shriving Service in the parish church.
I hope you will support the Food Bank by sponsoring my run. Please sign up on sponsor forms in the foyer at the Baptist Church or you can sponsor me on this website.
