What am I doing?
After the British Isles Challenge in 2009, this time I'm going bigger and better... I'm going to run from Vienna to Nice, across the Alps.
The overall trip distance is almost exactly 1,000 miles, which I hope to complete in 35 days, running 30 - 40 miles per day over summits, high passes and along alpine trails like the GR5.
There's lots of information on the challenge on my website at www.bigalpsrun.eu, as well as a blog about my racing and training.
Why?
The aim of the trip is to raise money for Water for Kids, a small charity who do amazing work in providing some of the world's poorest communities with access to clean water for the first time. This is something we all take for granted - imagine just a day without clean water and you can see the value of this charity. Please donate to support the Big Alps Run and ensure Water for Kids are able to save more lives.
More info on the charity is available at www.waterforkids.org.uk
Who is supporting me?
The British Isles Challenge was supported by Sir Ranulph Fiennes, and I have some high profile supporters this time around too. Firstly, world-record breaking cyclist Mark Beaumont is supporting my challenge, and says:
'The Big Alps Run is an inspired and quite incredible ambition - my very best wishes for what will be a gruelling mental and physical feat. Congratulations also Stuart for your fund raising for Water for Kids. Such great missions don't happen without the help of others so congratulations goes to your backers as well.'
So, please dig deep and donate now!
I've set an ambitious target but I hope we can reach it as this charity really deserves it, and anyway, it's only £10 a mile!
