We are Charlie Donaldson and Allan Mackay and we are planning to drive from John O’Groats to Lands End and back in just 4 days in a specially rebuilt 1959 Ford Anglia. We've both been heavily involved in motor sports and rallying since the age of 17 and have won many medals and trophies around the UK, but we've never done anything quite like this!
We're doing this to raise money for Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland, a charity which has supported both of us and our families following recent health problems.
Charilie: I had a heart attack and triple bypass surgery at the age of 48 and now have ongoing heart problems. I am a founder member of the CHSS's affiliated heart group in Inverness, Bravehearts.
Allan: I suffered silent pneumonia at New Year followed by a blood clot and major organ failure from which thankfully I am now fully recovered. My mother suffered a stroke 4 years ago and has also made a complete recovery.
We're setting off on 15th August, so we've not got too long to smash the £5,000 target we've set for ourselves. Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland funds vital medical research, gives advice and information and provides a range of local services for people with chest, heart or stroke illness and their families including 12 Volunteer Stroke Service Groups and outreach services in the Highlands. There are also CHSS Stroke Support Nurses working in Inverness, Caithness and Fort William.
