My story

Thank you for visiting the fundraising page for the first Richmond Canoe Club Big Paddle.

Richmond Canoe Club has undergone a fanatastic refurbishment programme over the past 2 years; we now have modern facilities, including those for disabled paddlers. With project grants now spent, funds for the on-going refurbishment of the Club are running a little dry. Therefore, what started as a big social event has turned into a trip with a charitable purpose.

Starting in the morning of Tuesday 19th June 20 members of Richmond Canoe Club will be undertaking the 125 mile trip from Lechlade (the source of the River Thames) back downstream to our home in Richmond. A further 20 members will be joining us for the last 2 days of our 6 day trip, with many more joining us for the last truimphant stretch down the river from Teddington Lock.

Please, please make this trip a worthwhile event by digging deep and sponsoring us online. Without your much needed money our refurbishment plans will grind to a halt. The Club is a great source of joy for many people in the West and South West of London and our clubhouse is the centre of this activity. We are a top class sporting institution focussing on racing, training children to be great canoeists of the future as well as a hub of adult recreational canoeing - therefore, we deserve a top class clubhouse.

A proportion of your donation will also be forwarded to another very worthy cause - the Canoe Foundation; a charity supported by the British Canoe Union who fund projects that encourage those with disabilities to enage in canoeing activities. For more information on the Canoe Foundation please see www.bcu.org.uk/bcu/512-3-the-canoeing-foundation.aspx

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Richmond Canoe Club will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Many thanks for your support. We sincerely appreciate it.
