“this is the best day of my life!”
- An 11 year old boy from Bristol during a day out cycling with us
Life Cycle’s youth project, Bike Generation, aims to engage young people in socially deprived areas of Bristol with a range of bicycle-related activities, giving them a sense of fun and achievement, as well as practical skills.
We run free bicycle mechanic workshops where professional mechanics show young people how to fix a bike, which builds their confidence and teaches them practical skills. The workshop provides a constructive outlet for exuberant energy, and enhances more traditional experiences in the classroom.
We also run Guided rides, led by fully accredited instructors, which encourage young people to explore new areas of Bristol city which they might not otherwise visit, and Mountain bike rides to offer them a rare opportunity to get out into the countryside.
How can you support Bike Generation?
We have recently started running Bike Polo sessions at several inner city areas. These hugely successful sessions offer young people a safe environment to come and have fun, take exercise and make new friends. We need your help to expand the project:
- £10 could pay for a mallet and safety equipment for one more young person
- £25 could pay for a 1-hour Bike Polo session for 10 children from deprived areas
- £50 could pay for a refurbished bike to lend to a young person without their own
- £1000 could pay for a whole year's worth of Bike Polo
