The challenge
In September 2010 we, Dave and Steve Heylings, will set off to become the first British to ever cycle up Mount Kenya. We will start in the market town of Nanyukiat (6,480ft) where we will begin our ascent up to Pt Lenana (16,355ft). It will take four days to get up and two days to return and in doing so we will cross the equator and cycle through eight vegetation bands in a national park that is home to monkeys, antelopes, elephants, buffalo, hyenas, leopards and, lions!
We are, by and large, expecting to enjoy yourselves on this trip and are covering all costs ourselves. Any donations made will be delivered in full to the Karibuni Trust.
The charity
The Karibuni Trust is a UK Registered Charity; which aims to raise awareness about the plight of children living on the streets and in the slums of Kenya and to raise money to support projects to meet their needs.
The Trust has no paid staff and therefore, apart from a small amount spent on office expenses, all the money raised and donated is used to support the work in the projects.
