European Marathon Challenge

BREAKING NEWS......

Vince, Steve and Blakey completed the final leg of the marathon tour on Sunday 26nd April in very hot conditions in London, in times of 3.41, 4.15 and 4.17 respectively.

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.

This is a picture of my youngest son Maddox, a happy little boy in the main and like most children his age he has a real love of life and enjoys all the opportunities presented to him.

At the age of 4 Maddox was diagnosed with permanent partial hearing loss in both ears (moderate sensori-neural hearing loss) a condition he was probably born with. At the time we received the news about Maddox I knew absolutely nothing about Maddox’s condition or anything about how to adapt his daily activities so as to help him cope with his disability, improve and optimise his learning and education and maintain his quality of life. I guess much like most parents placed in similar positions.

I began my search for assistance and knowledge and this is when I came across the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS).  A charity I never knew existed but one I’m so very grateful does, the NDCS has helped Maddox no end and continues to do so providing really useful information and advice on a full range of key and relevant issues. The NDCS services include freephone help-lines, on hand trained support workers, a range of helpful publications and much more.

Unfortunately there are over 35,000 deaf children in theUK with many more born with partial hearing loss; the funds we hope to raise will go some way to help these children and their families receive a full range of support and information services from NDCS. Without support from the NDCS many families may struggle to communicate effectively with their deaf or partially deaf child.

This European Marathon Challenge is an opportunity to give something back to the NDCS for the help it continues to provide to my family and to the thousands of other children and their families.
