We're conscious that many of our wedding guests wish to acknowledge our marriage by way of a small gift. We're very keen that you consider supporting one of our 'wedding charities' as a worthy alternative.
One of our favoured charities is the Bill Wallace Grant Fund of The John Muir Trust.
The John Muir Trust is the leading wild land conservation charity. Bill Wallace was a stalwart of the Trust who played an important role in the development of the organisation. Bill was adventurous, inspired others and made a huge personal contribution towards increasing awareness of the need to safeguard wild places both in Scotland and overseas until his untimely death.
A grant scheme capturing the very ethos of the man, "Go-and Do It!", was launched in 2006 to give others an opportunity to follow in Bill's footsteps and to seek out life changing experiences in wild places of the world in ways which will benefit both the person and the wild places themselves. I (Colin) was one of the founding donors to the grant scheme and take an interest in the awards that are made. I also support the wider work of the JMT in owning and managing wild land throughout the country.
"Go-and Do It!" Grants are made by the Trust on merit to people who wish to "Go-and Do It!" in the spirit of Bill. Beneficiary projects involve travel to wild places which must be adventurous, of educational or scientific significance - and be a life changing experience leading to a commitment to practical action to conserve wild places.
Your support will make a difference to the "Go-and Do It!" award programme.
The John Muir Trust gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
