This weekend Sam,Gavin,Chris and myself are joining two other teams others from our Hawthorns in a HUGE cycle race and our participation is raising money for the Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Rutland Air Ambulance (http://www.dlraa.co.uk/home.html). The race we are entering is the Dusk till Dawn race in Thetford Forest (http://www.thetfordmtbracing.com/) the idea is simple, we are in 3 teams of 4 and start racing at 8pm on saturday. The team race in relay style around the course for 12 hours until 8am on Sunday morning, so member one does 1 lap, then member 2 the 3 and 4 etc. By 8am each team member is required to have completed a minimum of 2 laps for the teams time to be counted as an official result.Sounds easy yes? Well actually not really, the course is an off road mountain bike course and is 14 miles long! Also there are no lights on the course as it is in the middle of Thetford Forest so we shall be racing by our bikes lights only. Now if you know me and sam, we aren't that fit, gavin is a bit better but still not good either! Ok chris is good,chris cycles well but for the rest of us basically if the night doesn't kill us the cycle ride almost certainly will!
But it is all in a good cause and we are both asking everyone to sponsor our team to complete the race and raise loads of money for the air ambulance. If you are a UK taxpayer the site will also let you add gift aid to the donation, meaning you can donate more at no additional cost to you!
To be completely honest and fair ill tell you that just-giving charge the charity for their service to cover costs. The air ambulance pay £15 a month for the service and then a little portion of each donation. However based on a £10 donation, when you add gift aid and then minus the just-giving charges the air ambulance will STILL receive £11.93!! In addition if you are ineligible to give gift aid, just-giving do not charge, they only charge when gift aid donations
are made!
So please please PLEASE everyone dig deep into their pockets and give as much as you can to support this really worthy cause and make all of sam and myself's suffering slightly worth it!!
