My story
In September we will be taking a few days off from solving the science publishing crisis in order to solve the education inequality crisis. We can't solve that problem with just the four of us, though: we need your donations!
We will be undertaking a 6-day cycle ride in Chile for Computer Aid International that will take us along the Andes in Patagonia. We will ride over 375 kilometres on diverse terrain; a challenging combination of tarmac and dusty red-earth off-road trails.
Computer Aid International provides the highest-quality, professionally refurbished computers for reuse in education, health and not-for-profit organisations in developing countries. Computer Aid has shipped over 135,000 PCs to where they are most needed in more than 100 countries, helping people to gain the education and skills that they require to break away from poverty.
For example, £2900 will enable Computer Aid to equip a disadvantaged school with an entire 20 PC lab for the first time. The application of IT is targeted where it will have the most positive social and economic impact. The digital divide that currently exists between the developed and developing countries is enormous. Latest World Bank research shows that there are 5 or fewer computers per 1,000 people in most of Sub-Saharan Africa and the South Asian sub-continent.
What's more, reusing working computers provides an environmentally friendly way of recycling relinquished hardware that might otherwise have been dumped in one of the UK's multitude of landfills.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Computer Aid International gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor us now!
Thanks for your support
