Background BOOST (Building On Overlooked Sporting Talent) is a sporting charity founded in 2005. The project sets out to develop sporting and life opportunities for young people on two levels. On one level we aim to develop coaches, providing them with the opportunity to become qualified in all the relevant areas associated with coaching, and subsequently with real coaching opportunities within the community both at home and abroad. On another level, we aim to provide young people with the opportunity to play rugby, in a safe and caring environment, where they are able to progress at their own pace, and also compete in a structured and professional manner.
The Work We Have Done So Far There are currently 45 students who form part of the BOOST coaching project, 13 of which have been with BOOST from the start and are now performing mentoring roles for new BOOST coaches. We have been involved with coaching in schools throughout Leicestershire, delivering rugby to over 15,000 children aged from 8 to 18 years. Weeks of quality coaching in Charnwood schools in 2005/2006, resulted in over 40 young players being invited to play in two BOOST invitation 7’s matches, in front of 3,000 fans prior to the ‘Real Varsity’ match played between Loughborough and Bath atLoughboroughUniversity . Following the presentation of medals to all the young players who took part in the games, players were able to be ball boys and girls, and be a part of the special atmosphere created at the event.
TALENT EXCHANGE Building on the successful relationship established withLoughboroughUniversity , Boost has initiated a programme to encourage the exchange of ideas and experiences between rugby coaches in the and Overseas. Last spring, coaches from Overseas attended an intensive 6 week sport and cultural course atLoughboroughUniversity . In the summer,9 under-graduates will be going overseas to coach in schools and clubs where the game is starting to gain popularity. Upon completing the exchange Matt Gracie, one of the students said “ showed me the blessing that is being part of the global rugby community and that opportunities in life must be maximized.”BOOST is committed to providing opportunities for coaches both at home and abroad. On the home front BOOST supports its coaches during holiday times, by providing them with paid coaching jobs on various camps, such as Leicester Tigers rugby weeks, O² Rugby Class camps and many more.So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support. http://www.boostct.org/ Jenna Studley - Rugby Development Officer (Leicestershire and Rutland ) “The BOOST project atLoughboroughUniversity , has had a significant impact not only in the local area but across the County as a whole as it is an excellent resource of highly motivated and professionally minded coaches. As well as providing more opportunities for young people to experience rugby in the school environment they have also linked with local rugby clubs, organised festivals and refereed at various RFU events. Some of the higher qualified and experienced coaches have also been approached to work with County representative squads which indicates the standard of students who are part of this scheme. From a personal point of view the students I have worked with have all demonstrated enthusiasm, good rugby knowledge and an all round professional attitude towards their coaching, and I hope this scheme will continue in the future.” Billy Clark - Leicester Tigers RDO “The BOOST programme has proven to be an invaluable partner for the Leicester Tigers offering reliable, enthusiastic and highly qualified coaches who have played a key role in the delivery of our award winning community coaching programmes.”
