About Bowel Cancer UK

Our Mission Statement

Bowel Cancer UK aims to save lives by raising awareness of bowel cancer, campaigning for best treatment and care and providing practical support and advice.

We run the UK's leading Bowel Cancer Advisory Service. Open Monday to Friday, between 10am and 4pm, the telephone service is staffed by specialist nurses who can also respond to enquiries by email. Callers can talk in confidence to our colorectal, stoma care and oncology nurses about all aspects of bowel cancer and bowel health. Our nurses offer advice on treatment options, symptoms or information on reducing the risk of bowel cancer.

Bowel Cancer UK provides information, support and literature to anyone affected by bowel cancer or with bowel health concerns. We can also provide information on campaigning for treatments.

Why our Work is so Important

Early diagnosis of bowel cancer in the UK is a problem because people either find it uncomfortable to discuss the symptoms of the disease or simply do not know what they are. Survival rates in the UK are amongst the lowest in Europe, with 15% more patients being diagnosed at a later stage of the disease compared with most other European countries. This is why Bowel Cancer UK’s work – to encourage people to recognise the symptoms of the disease and to act on their concerns so that they have the best chance of survival – is so important.
