Husband and wife team, Dr J Weldon Mc Nutt (known to most as Tico) and Lesley Boggs MA are the driving force behind the The Botswana Predator Conservation Trust (BPCT). Founded as the Botswana Wild Dog Research Project in 1989, the BPCT has expanded to cover all the large carnivore species (cheetah, hyena, leopard, lion, and wild dog) on the grounds that the condition of the entire predator population is a key indication of overall state of the ecosystem. A key aspect of their work has been to link conservation and environmental issues to decision making in the ongoing development of rural Botswana and also to education.
The inaugural event in April 2008 raised some £29,000 for BPCT, and the following year the event raised £30,000. To see how this has been used, how you can help, and for further information on BPCT, please visit the website at www.bpctrust.org.
