About Brain and Spine Foundation

Brain and spine disorders affect more than 3 million people in the UK and are the most common cause of death and disability in the population. The list is extensive and includes conditions such as brain tumours; dizziness and balance problems; head injuries, multiple sclerosis; spinal cord injury as well as many rare conditions such as neurofibromatosis and dystonia.

Advances in neuroscience research, together with improvements in the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions mean that there is great potential for improving the quality of life for people affected by brain and spine disorders. However, the resources, training, expertise, information and support needed by patients, carers and health professionals are not always available.

The Brain and Spine Foundation was set up in 1992 to develop research, education and information programmes aimed at improving the prevention, treatment and care of people affected by disorders of the brain and spine and to stimulate the greater allocation of resources across all neurological disorders.
