Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

BEFORE - About 20 years ago I spent one night in a tree to raise funds for Children in need.  As many of you may know, since then I have become wheelchair bound, gained a few pounds and shed a few hairs!!    This year I would like to, raise funds for the charity once again and have opted to re-enact my tree-sleep of all those years ago.  To top it, my aim is to go one better and spend not one, but two nights (20th and 21st Nov 2009) up a tree in my home town of North Berwick, Scotland.

As you can imagine it's going to somewhat more of a challenge this time around.  Beside the actual accent of the tree,  being exposed to "the best" a Scottish November night can throw at me is likely to be interesting to say the least.  Watch those weather reports!!!

DURING - Climbing the tree went without a hitch and I was up and on my "ledge" by about 4pm Friday. Despite the floods in SW Scotland, weather was fairly good on Friday night - dry and not much wind.   Support was great, and I collected GBP1000 by about 10pm Friday.

Saturday's weather was forecast to be really grim with heavy rain and 35mph gusting winds.  In the night I had to tighten up ropes as my stretcher started being blown around a bit.  Support continued throughout the day, as did the general good-natured abuse I received!!

Sunday dawned with more rain.  Abseiled down at about 10am and sojourned to the County to debrief the support crew and count the donations in the bucket.  Donations continued to roll in through the afternoon and hopefully still will for a few days so final tally will not be done for a while yet!

_________________________________________________________________________________________

The final tally of what was collected in donations at the tree, via local company donations in cheques and cash, and from collection points in some local businesses was GBP3273.  This was banked directly to Children in Need on 7th December 2009.  Add to that the GBP615 donated to the Charity via this page and the total raised was GBP3888!!!

Thanks a million to everyone who supported me in this endeavour . . .till next time!!

Regards

Brian
